I think we can safely say that summer is here. To celebrate, we asked around the BCU office for peopleís favourite things to do in Bristol and beyond when the sun shines. Hereís our round up.

I love going to Cabot Tower in Brandon Hill. Itís free, there are great views once youíve climbed the steep, twisting steps and itís open every day from 8am to dusk. Then, why not have a picnic in the park?

When itís nice weather, my wife and I will cycle from Bristol to Bath along the old railway cycle track Ė about 13 miles long but fairly flat. Cycling out through suburban Bristol lets you see the city from a totally different perspective. Sometimes we stop at the Jolly Sailor in Saltford for some refreshment en route, which is just off the cycle path and the beer garden has the river running through the middle of it.

We are spoilt for choice with green spaces in Bristol. Tea-time picnics are always a winner in our house when the weather allows. We just pack up a portable dinner and make the most of the fading sunshine. The park near Clifton Suspension bridge is always a favourite, making sure we have a few goes on the rock slide! Itís also a great place to watch one of the many mass balloon ascents that take place as part of the International Balloon Fiesta- if the wind is blowing the right way!
