Residents of Larkhall and the surrounding area will soon be able to access services offered by Bristol Credit Union (BCU) from the New Oriel Hall, thanks to volunteers from the local community.
From the 1 October, people will be able to drop in to the Community Centre on every first and third Thursday of the month, 6pm-7pm, to open an account, deposit money or find out more about BCU services.
The new service will be officially launched on 1 October by Councillor Ian Gilchrest, Chairman of Bath and North East Somerset council and Jean Woods, fashionista, who will both cut the ribbon.
To celebrate the launch of the service point, BCU are offering free membership to anyone who joins before the 31st December 2015 – a saving of £2.50. To join, people will need to bring ID, proof of address and £1 to open their account.
Kate Hanks, Deputy C.E.O. of Bristol Credit Union says “We are delighted to be partnering with the members of the community of Larkhall. We were approached by the group who wanted local people to be able to access the wide range of services we provide. After receiving training and support from BCU, volunteers will be on hand to help local people make the most of their money, by giving them access to affordable loans, competitive savings accounts and quality banking services. We look forward to welcoming new members from the Larkhall area”.
Councillor Lin Patterson says, “Our area has been without this range of banking services for too long. Now residents can join and use the credit union to help build more financial security, knowing they are in safe hands. We hope residents will come at 6pm,Thursday 1st October to hear some jolly music, have light refreshments, a complimentary glass of wine and celebrate this beneficial new arrival!”
