Switch and Support

Whether you’ve a new project in mind, or if you’ve got borrowing with one of the big banks you’d like to switch, now’s a great time to choose Bristol Credit Union.

Borrowing with us instead of with a bank really makes a difference to the work we can do for our local communities.

Why it pays to #BorrowLocal

1. Borrow local and your money stays local

When you take out a Bristol Credit Union loan, the interest you pay isn’t destined for the pockets of distant shareholders. Because we’re a not-for-private-profit cooperative, your money stays in our local community – helping us provide fairer banking services; offer small loans to those who need them at much lower rates than loan sharks, payday lenders and others; and to pay returns to encourage local savings.

2. We reinvest into the community

We invest in local projects and initiatives that share our values on your behalf. Last year we were able to help South Bristol Sports Centre create six new all-weather five-a-side football pitches, and help Bristol Energy Cooperative become one of the UK’s largest generators of community energy

3. Competitive interest rates

We offer loans from £100 - £15,000, with rates as low as 4.9% APR representative for loans of £7,500 +. Take a look at our loan calculator to see the full range of loans we offer.

4. Doing more to keep money local

As well as supporting local people and communities, we are proud to provide Bristol Pound accounts. By helping people spend locally we are making our city’s economy stronger.

Over 80% of the money we spend ourselves each year is spent within our local community, reinforcing the benefit of switching your borrowing from a bank where it might be 10% at the most. For every pound you pay in interest over 80p of it will be spent locally, versus less than 10p if you borrow from a bank.

If you'd like to #BorrowLocal and help your community thrive......

If you are not a member with us, you can  join and apply for a loan at the same time, by completing an online membership form. You will need to be on the electoral register and be able to make a £10 card payment.

If you are already a member, you can login to your account and apply online. Tell us some details about yourself and your circumstances, and how much you want to switch.
